The company BARBOSA & ALMEIDA decided to locate a glass bottle factory in Extremadura in 1996. The project began in the middle of 1997 and the construction works commenced in October of the same year. A building measuring 49,587 m2 was built on a plot measuring 276,658 m2 to produce and store 300 tons of glass a day. Investment amounted to €45,076,000, including railway infrastructures.
After the useful life of the oven, a new project was broached in 1998 to increase production by 30% aimed at including a new production line and increasing warehousing space for raw materials, along with all the facilities these modifications entailed. The investment foreseen for this project amounted to around €20,000,000, including the changeover from a recuperative with a regenerative oven. This project was executed in a timescale of 60 days.
